Relove. Refill, Reuse Management Plan

Do you care about the environment? Are you trying to reduce your plastic footprint on the earth? Well now is your chance to support a new upcoming company called Relove, Refill, Reuse Bar. The goal of the company is to provide a refill station of hand soaps, shampoos and conditioners to its consumers. However, this company has not quite been developed yet. Our goal as a team of 4 was to develop roles for each of us, create a project definition document, create a work breakdown structure, create a Gantt chart and develop a budget in order to get a better understanding of how to develop a project and to know what key items you need in order to develop a site for the company.

Team Charter

For our team charter, our team called the Tech Titans got a better understanding of all of our strengths and weaknesses. Each member on the team had different tools that could potentially create a potential mock up for a site. This document was also helpful to express each individual’s availability and what time zones each team member was located in. This document also had all team member’s contact information. In order to respect my other team members, I will not be including their personal information.

Project Definition Document (PDD)

The main purpose of developing a PDD is to get a better understanding of who the stakeholders are that we would be working with and to get a better understanding of the project that is being developed. This document clearly defined the objectives of the document, the teams or individuals involved in the creation of the website, the potential risks that the team could end up facing, and the materials that would be needed in order to complete the project. Below is a snippet of the PPD.

Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)

Based on the skills of each of the team members, we were able to delegate jobs to each of the individuals based on their strengths. For this hypothetical project, I would be the graphic designer and the UI/UX designer that would be completing the task. We then broke up the tasking in the planning phase, requirements development, mock up creation, user testing, and delivery. Each of these categories were broken down even further in order to describe the task and the deliverables.

Gnatt Chart

The WBS is correlated with the gantt chart. Based on the task that was created, we can then develop a timeline in order to get the project done. This is a great visualization of what tasks need to be done and to show tasks that are complete. This is a great tool to visually show stakeholders on what needs to get done and to show who is responsible for completing the task.

Project Budget

It is important to establish a budget when creating a project. Again, the budget is in line with the gantt chart. Based on the tasks, we can develop and overall budget of what the projected cost of the project could be. When actually doing the tasks, we have a way of keep track if we are in budget, over budget, or under budget. Based on our research, we projected what each of our yearly salary rates would be in order to determine our hourly rate for each of the different positions.

Overall, I learned a lot of important concepts throughout this project. This project gave me a better understanding from a stakeholder perspective of what they would like to see from a UX designer. I can see the importance of defining the parameters of the project early in order to keep the workload manageable to the amount of people who are working on it. Even though this project is very different compare to the other ones I have included in my portfolio, I feel like this project gave me the best understanding on how to manage a project and define the smallest of details in order to have a successful result in creating and developing a project. If I were to get this opportunity again, I would like to take on the role of the project manager in order to get a better understanding of how to run a team.
